| Spring kids compete in Louisiana Governor Games Posted: 23 Jun 2010 10:46 PM PDT The Texas Stallions Track Club recently participated in the 19th edition of the Louisiana Governor's Games. Sponsored by the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, the event aims to expand sports and fitness programs to encourage healthy behavior for Louisiana youth. The Stallions and 45 other teams with more than 1,500 youth athletes competed in the youth track & field meet at Louisiana State University's Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Children from the Spring area make up part of the Stallions track and field team. "It's children ages four to 18 and they are mostly from Louisiana, but come from all over," said Lavoxkeia Carnes, communications director and assistant head coach. "There are kids from Texas, Mississippi and Alabama. Our clubs are one of the clubs that travel to these events." Seven boys and nine girls from the Stallions stable took part in events that were held by age groups: PeeWee (6 & under) Primary (7-8), Sub-Bantam (9), Bantam (10), Sub-Midget (11), Midget (12), Sub-Youth (13), Youth (14), Intermediate (15-16), and Young Men/Women (17-18). For the first time in its 19 year history, the Governor Games presented Team Awards to the boys and girls teams with the most points. The Stallions girls team placed 11th earning 83 points with the throwers leading the way.
