Posted: 29 Apr 2010 06:14 PM PDT

April 29, 2010 - Major League Soccer (MLS) Real Salt Lake

SANDY, Utah (Thursday, April 29, 2010) - Real Salt Lake (1-2-1, 4 pts.) will begin a stretch of four of five games at home during the month of May this Saturday, May 1, when the Claret-and-Cobalt will welcome Toronto FC (2-3-0, 6 pts.) to Sandy on U.S. Bank "Kids Day" for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. In addition to the various U.S. Bank "Kids Day" activities taking place before and during the game, children attending Saturday's contest will have the chance to take to the same turf as their Claret-and-Cobalt clad heroes after the contest, when the squad will welcome all kids onto the Rio Tinto Stadium field (weather-permitting).

Tickets for the first match in a three-game homestand at Rio Tinto Stadium are still available and can be purchased online at www.RealSaltLake.com and www.RioTintoStadium.com, over the phone at 888-4-RSL-TIX (888-477-5849), and in person at the Rio Tinto Stadium Box Office weekdays from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. MT and on gameday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Those that can't make it to Sandy can follow the contest live via RSL's official radio partners: KALL 700 Sports (live coverage from Rio Tinto Stadium begins with the America First Credit Union Pre-match Report at 6:00 p.m.), ESPN Deportes 1600-AM, and La Magia 106.1-FM.

Children Allowed to Enter RSL's "Field of Dreams" during Post-game Festivities

Should weather conditions allow, Saturday's U.S. Bank "Kids Day" will wrap up with Real Salt Lake giving its youngest fans the chance to take to the same turf as their heroes, as the Rio Tinto Stadium field will be opened to all kids in attendance for photo opportunities approximately 15 minutes after the final whistle. Following the screening of Head Coach Jason Kreis' post-game press conference on the North scoreboard, four entry points to the field will open (from Sections 1, 26, & 32 and the Southwest corner ramp) for kids to take to the pitch, with designated "photo zones" to be set up at midfield with Leo the Lion, the Real Salt Lake bench, and near both the north and south goals (cameras not provided). To wrap up the evening, Real Salt Lake will ask all participants to head to the midfield circle for a group photo that will be available for download after the match on the team's Flickr page ( www.flickr.com/RealSaltLake).

Saturday's Gameday Events at Rio Tinto Stadium Highlighted by U.S. Bank "Kids Day"

There will be a bevy of activities prior to kickoff this Saturday against Toronto, and all the fun begins two hours before the match with the opening of Carnival Real at 5:00 p.m. MT. This week's pre-game festival on the Stadium's East Lawn will be super-sized thanks to U.S. Bank's "Kids Day" activities, which will include a mini-clinic run by the RSL Youth Development staff, an autograph signing session from 5:30-6:30 p.m. with a member of the RSL roster (player TBD), free balloons for the first 200 kids in attendance, a booth where families can enter their babies in that night's "U.S. Bank Diaper Derby," a talent show and dance competition for Canyons School District students on the Carnival Real stage, and mini-carnival games such as soccer bowling, bean bag toss, ring toss, and pick-a-duck scattered throughout the Carnival Real area.

Plenty of other vendors and activities will keep Carnival Real hopping leading up to the match, with Budweiser ("Designated Driver of the Game" sign-up), Burger King ("Whopper Hopper" inflatable and Prize Wheel), Check City, KFC ("Colonel's Corner" voucher redemption and halftime "Bucket Brigade" sign-up), Mangia, Mountain America Credit Union (inflatable target kick), State Farm Insurance, Wasatch Property, and XanGo all scheduled to be on hand on Saturday evening. Once gates to Rio Tinto Stadium open at 6:00 p.m., fans will also get the chance to visit the Comcast and Utah Department of Public Safety ("Responsibility Has Its Rewards" sign-up) booths located on the north concourse leading up to kickoff.

Jim Bridger Elementary Teacher Kristie Giles Named Latest RSL/American Express "Hero Among Us"

Real Salt Lake and American Express are proud to announce Kristie Giles as Saturday's recipient of the newly-created "Heroes Among Us" honor, being awarded at each RSL home game in 2010 to a deserving member of the local community that goes out of their way to help everyday citizens like themselves. RSL and American Express will provide Giles and a guest with complimentary tickets for Saturday night's match against Toronto FC and a personalized Real Salt Lake home jersey, to be awarded to her during a pre-game recognition ceremony in front of the RSL faithful.

Ms. Giles is a 5th grade teacher at Jim Bridger Elementary School in West Jordan and has been teaching for over 10 years. She constantly goes beyond the call of duty, logging countless hours helping children with their school work well after the day's final bell rings.

Kristie is also actively involved with a number of Jim Bridger Elementary's extracurricular activities, including writing, producing, and directing the annual school musical for several years running. She tackles these after-school duties on a volunteer basis, hoping to teach children the benefits of the arts while also giving the younger generation an experience laden with team-building skills and a sense of achievement.

Saints And Walser Automotive Put Kids In The Spotlight

Posted: 29 Apr 2010 10:55 AM PDT

April 29, 2010 - American Association (AA) St. Paul Saints

ST. PAUL, MN (April 28, 2010) - Since 1993, parents have been bringing their kids to St. Paul Saints games. In 2010, the St. Paul Saints, along with the Walser Automotive Group, will return the favor by taking their show on the road and bringing the enjoyment of a Saints game to them with the Saints Youth Spotlight Games.

Beginning in May and continuing throughout the summer, the Saints and their entertainment team will visit ten different youth leagues across the Twin Cities Metro Area. Each stop will bring laughter and smiles with off-the-wall promotions, warm and fuzzy hugs from the Saints two-legged mascot, Mudonna, and the feel of a professional baseball game with pregame ceremonies, a public address announcer and a ballpark organist.

"Nothing beats the look in a young ballplayer's eyes as he hears his name over a sound system while stepping into the batter's box," said Derek Sharrer, Saints Executive Vice President and General Manager. "I can't imagine a better way to give back to the youth sports community that has been so supportive of us for the past 17 years."

Saints fans have enjoyed side-splitting antics for 17 seasons with promotions ranging from the traditional dizzy bat race and sumo wrestling to the sounds of Seigo Masabuchi signing Karaoke with a Real Japanese Guy. The Saints are also the team that introduced the fifth inning drag (by men cleaning the infield wearing women's clothing) and the classic evil goaltender, the St. Paul Sieve. These promotions and more will take place at each Youth Spotlight Game.

The fun doesn't end there. Children have often dreamt about hearing their name called during pre-game introductions and racing out to the field and tipping their cap to a roaring crowd. The Saints will make that dream come true with a pre-game ceremony featuring Saints public address announcer Joe Wiener and organist, Andy Crowley. As each batter makes his way to the plate for their at bats they will once again hear their names over the loud speaker along with their favorite walk-up music.

The feeling of a professional baseball game wouldn't be complete without reading about it afterwards. Each Youth Spotlight game will feature a "Sports Page-esque" write up and box score which will be posted on the Saints web site, saintsbaseball.com.

With the sights and sounds covered, The Walser Automotive Group is ready to take care of tastes. Walser, in their retrofitted 45-foot RV, will be on-site tailgating at each event providing free hot dogs, drinks and prize giveaways to participants, their families and spectators alike.

"We are thrilled to play such a large role in making the St Paul Saints Youth Spotlight Games possible," said Andrea Kopfmann, Manager of the Walser Foundation. "Walser has served the Twin Cities for over 50 years. Every year, we support organizations that are effective at improving the quality of life for Minnesotans."

The Saints Youth Spotlight Game Program is one of the area's most unique partnerships between a sports team and youth sports. The program is entering its fifth season and is considered a signature Saints community initiative.

Safe Kids Kansas Offers Youth Sports Safety Tips

Posted: 30 Apr 2010 03:48 AM PDT

TOPEKA, Kansas — More than 30 million children participate in sports each year in the United States. Of those 30 million, approximately 3.5 million children under the age of 14 are treated for sports-related injuries in hospitals, clinics and emergency rooms. During Safe Kids Week (April 25 – May 3), Safe Kids Kansas reminds parents and coaches to focus on the four components critical to keeping young athletes healthy and injury-free: preventing acute and overuse injuries, proper hydration before, during and after play, annual pre-season medical screenings for each athlete and finally, concussion awareness, prevention and screening methods.

Here are five important sports safety tips from Safe Kids Kansas that all coaches, parents and league organizers can use to prevent sports-related injuries:

· Pre-Season Medical Screening: Every child should receive an annual pre-participation physical evaluation (PPE). These exams may prevent or treat any underlying conditions the young athlete may have.

Safety gear: To prevent acute injuries, children playing sports should have access to and consistently use well-maintained safety equipment during both practices and games.

· Qualified coaching: Athletic coaches should be trained in both first aid and CPR, have a plan for responding to emergencies and have current knowledge of both safety rules and proper equipment use. Sports programs with certified Athletic Trainers on staff are ideal because they are trained to prevent or provide immediate care for athletic injuries.

· Proper Conditioning: To prevent acute and overuse injuries, coaches should teach young athletes proper routines for both warm-ups and cool-downs before and after practice and play. Sixty-two percent of sports-related injuries occur during practice rather than in a game.

· Hydration: Athletes should be encouraged to drink water before, during and after practice and competition.

· Rest: If young athletes are very tired or in pain, coaches and parents should encourage them to rest, not to play, as this valuable recovery time can help prevent acute and overuse injuries.

"Children ages five to 14 account for nearly 40 percent of all sports-related injuries treated in hospital emergency departments," says Cherie Sage, State Director for Safe Kids Kansas. "Our goal is to reach coaches and parents with this critical information and resources to keep kids out of the emergency room."

For more information on sports safety and preventing dehydration, call Safe Kids Kansas at 785-296-1223 or visit www.safekids.org/sports.
