The Kids of Mud cycling series wrapped up with the fourth and final race this past weekend, and the Portage Junkyard Dogs team secured five first overall finishes in the standings and several more high placings.

"I'm so proud of everyone that participated this year," said head coach Dave Stanley. "Everyone really pushed it. There was nobody slacking off in the races, and all you can ask as a coach is that everybody gives their best. It was really impressive."

Kids of Mud Race #4 took place at the JYD-maintained Birch Ski Area course near Roseisle on Sunday, and a few local riders made up some ground in the standings on the final day.

One of those was Jenna Shackleton, who won the U15 female race by nearly three minutes to leapfrog her way to the top of the standings.

Scoring A Fix: The Most Addictive Video Games

Posted: 02 Jul 2010 08:15 AM PDT

Video games are everywhere nowadays – in our living rooms and on our cell phones. All that access creates a lot of opportunity for kids to get hooked on high scores.

Although most kids who consider themselves big "gamers" aren't likely to have a problem, Idaho therapists and psychiatrists tell Today's 6 they've seen a steady rise in video game addiction cases.

A therapist with SUWS Wilderness Programs, an Idaho-based organization offering help to at risk youth, estimates that about 10 percent of those enrolled are now struggling with video game addiction. It may be as high as 20 percent.

The risks to teens can be significant – lost interest in school and friends and even violent outbursts. These adverse consequences can also be considered warning signs for parents. Although no one really knows the long-term impact of video game addiction on those afflicted, local experts do think untreated addiction could cause serious developmental problems.

["There may be] significant consequences for the young adults," explains psychiatrist Scott Partridge-Hoopes, "Later in life [they could have] a somewhat impaired ability to socialize."

CRC Health Group has sponsored a website dedicated to video game addiction with a lot of resources. The website includes a write-up on the most addictive video games – the ones that are most likely to suck people and kids in.

Some of the worst games are often simple and easy to learn like Solitaire and Tetris. There's also another even more addictive group of games to watch out for – massive multiplayer games with lots of detail like the Halo franchise. World of Warcraft, widely considered one of the most successful games of all time with millions enrolled and playing online, is so addictive it's often called World of War-crack.
